The aim of this umbrella review was to synthesize evidence from systematic reviews of individual strategies to reduce burnout in hospital nurses. Eleven systematic reviews with a total of over 6000 participants were included. Strategies were classified into three areas: mental health (51%), physical activity (26%), and professional competence (13%). The most effective interventions were mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), yoga, and competency-building education programs. The interventions demonstrated significant reductions in emotional exhaustion (up to 73%), depersonalization (up to 58%), and professional stress (up to 78%). The review highlights the need to integrate these strategies into human resource management practices in healthcare.
